Apple has quietly launched a new version of its mobile operating system, iOS 7.1.1, with a couple of minor fixes.
The arrival of iOS 7.1 last month saw a number of sizeable tweaks and improvements to the iOS 7 UI, as well as new features like CarPlay integration.
The latest iOS 7.1.1 update is considerably less exciting however, but it may provide relief to some lingering irritations.
The main improvement listed by Apple is “further improvements to Touch ID fingerprint recognition.” It may relate to complaints in certain quarters that the Touch ID system worsened in accuracy as time wore on, making it harder and harder for your fingerprints to be recognised.
The other two noted features are minor bug fixes. The first relates to an issue that could hamper keyboard responsiveness, while the other fixes an issue with Bluetooth keyboards with VoiceOver enabled.
One other interesting improvement that isn’t listed by Apple is a subtle tweak to App Store listings. Now, any apps or games containing in-app purchases will be noted as having such underneath the download/purchase button in the Top Charts section (and other similar listings).
iOS 7.1.1 is available through iTunes or over the air right now. Simply head to the General section of your device’s Settings menu and select Software Update.
As always, you’ll need to be plugged into the mains or have at least 50 percent battery life to proceed. The download is 26MB in size.
