A comprehensive, untethered jailbreak of iOS 5.1.1 has been released. It is dubbed Absinthe 2.0 and is available to download now. But don’t blame us if you give it a go and end up with a very expensive table mat.
The Absinthe 2.0 jailbreak was produced by two development teams, Chronic-Dev and iPhone Dev. Claiming to be “so easy your grandma could do it”, it’s the first time several Apple devices have had an easy jailbreak. The hack supports iPads, iPhones and iPod touches, with most generations compatible.
It’s a heavy price to pay, but for techy fiddlers in particular it comes with plenty of benefits, key among them the Cydia app store. This offers apps enabling features not possible with non-jailbroken iOS devices, such as the Swype keyboard, changing the way the UI looks and getting Siri on the iPhone 4.
