The Tape Dock from Ion is the latest in a line of gadgets that convert audio from your old analogue media into digital files.
The Tape Dock bears a strong resemblance to the 1980s Sony Walkman and other personal stereo cassette players and has a dock for an iPhone or iPod touch (it appears to be compatible with the iPhone 4 and 4S and the last generation iPod touch, and therefore not the new iPhone 5 and iPod touch, but this is yet to be confirmed). There’s a door for tapes in the other side, and users can play them while recording the audio to MP3 tracks directly on the iOS device. An app is required.
It can also record to an external Windows or Mac computer via an audio output, as it works with EZ Vinyl/Tape Converter. And it works as an old-fashioned personal stereo, thanks to its headphone jack and the ability to run on batteries.
