The war between Instagram and Twitter appears to be escalating – with the former’s photos no longer viewable on Twitter timelines.
According to Tech Crunch, Twitter users are reporting that, as of the weekend, Instagram photos can no longer be viewed in timelines. Clicking on an Instagram cross post’s “view photo” link from both Twitter’s website and official mobile app now results in a blank white space appearing.
The two social networking giants have been tussling of late, with Instagram last week dropping its support for Twitter cards.
Instagram has recently added web profiles for its users, and it appears the removal of working links is its latest strategy in the struggle to move them away from Twitter.
Twitter, for its part, is reported to be gearing up its own set of Instagram-style filters in an attempt to steer users away from the photo-sharing service. Claimed sources have reported that these filters will be available in the official Twitter app before the end of the year.
So it seems as if two of the world’s most popular social tools are trying their best to fall out with each other. The question is: is this good for the user or just another example of social media cutting off its nose to spite its face?
