Indy 500 2017 Live Stream: UK TV start times and how to watch

Hoping to watch this year’s Indy 500? Here’s all you need to know to catch the action from the 101st Indianapolis 500 live on TV and online, including full start time and schedule details.

This year’s Indy 500 is particularly noteworthy as McLaren-Honda F1 driver Fernando Alonso is skipping the Monaco Grand Prix to race for Andretti Autosport in the event as he looks to secure part two of a historic ‘triple crown’.

When is the Indy 500 2017? What times does the race start in the UK?

The Indy 500 event is split over two weekends. Qualifying took place on Saturday May 20 and Sunday May 21, and now we have the main Indy 500 race to look forward to on Sunday May 28.

UK TV coverage begins at 4.30pm BST, with the action scheduled to kick-off around 5pm with driver introductions, followed by the American National Anthem and, finally, at around 5.25pm UK time, the drivers will rev up their engines and the Indy 500 will get underway in earnest.

How to watch the Indy 500 2017 online and on UK TV

Unfortunately, watching the Indy 500 in the UK isn’t free – you’ll need to be a BT Sport subscriber to tune in to the action.

Indy 500 Qualifying: How does it work?

On Saturday, May 20, the first round of qualifying took place between 16:00 and 22:50 (BST), with all 33 cars submitting two consecutive timed laps each.

Then on Sunday, May 21, the 24 cars who placed in positions 10 through to 33 took part in Group 1 Qualifying. Afterwards, the fastest nine cars from the first qualifying round will take part in the Fast Nine Shootout to determine the positions for the main May 28 race.
