A state-run Indian arms manufacturer has unveiled what it claims is the country’s “lightest gun”.
It’s called the Nidar, a .22-calibre revolver that weighs just 250 grams – that’s less than five (delightfully chewy) Mars bars.
The dinky firearm has a barrel length of 40.3mm, an overall length of 140mm, and a range of just seven metres.
The lightness comes courtesy of an aluminium alloy that has “strength similar to steel”.

According to the manufacturer, carrying this pistol will make people “fearless”, as reported by the BBC.
It’s also reported that the gun is aimed at “professional Indian men and women”.
“I believe our customers would be people who travel a lot, who have security risks,” says PK Agarwal, who manages the factory, as quoted in the report. “They will buy this gun for their personal safety.”
He added: “I think it will be ideal for women. If a woman takes a taxi at night, the driver will think 10 times before trying anything with her because he knows she has a gun in her purse.”

The manufacturer expects to sell 10,000 units of the gun in 2016.
