The perfect accessory for any LCD.
With all the kafuffle over LCD TVs perhaps one of the most overlooked aspects is what you’ll do with one once you get it back home. Often the plan is to mount it on the wall, but that often evaporates when you realise it limits the quality of viewing experience to one specific area of the room. The answer is a moveable VESA wall mount, but you haven’t seen anything as good as this…
Made by Swedish company Lava, the LVM-601 motorised wall mount was – perhaps strangely – one of the most impressive pieces of kit I saw at IFA. It ‘s unique design means it can fit all 25 to 50in flatscreen TVs regardless of manufacturer yet it folds flatter than any static wall mount I’ve ever seen. Furthermore fantastic flexibility means the LVM-601 can be mounted to open left or right or even hung from the ceiling so the TV swings down!
Yet the real showstopper for me was how the LVM-601 performs in operation: it is smooth, fast and completely silent. Friendly Lava product manager Per Kristiansson even encouraged me to put my ear close to the motor arm but there was still no audible noise. For convenience everything is controlled via a supplied remote which is also capable of simple functionality such as adjusting the volume or advancing channels. In fact, if you purchase a Lava branded TV there are also built in wall mount control on their remotes.
Unfortunately the downer in all this is Lava has yet to tie up a UK distribution deal for this cracking new product. It’s RRP of $600-650* (£300-£325) is actually very reasonable too and if you’re prepared to splash out a few thousand on the latest and great LCD TV you’d be daft not to put aside this much cash to properly display it.
”’Big News!!”’ The Lava LVM-601 now has an official distributor in creditable web operator Morethanplasma. It sells directly, but is also pushing the mount to retailers where significant discounts can be found if you hunt around (hint, hint). Just make sure if you are going to take the plunge and buy this beauty you mount it properly – an installation fee is nothing compared to a damaged wall, smashed TV and shattered pride!
