Microsoft manages to knock two sticks together and make a small flame.
In a surprise development, Microsoft has announced that IE6 will take a massive leap forward in time and enter the Victorian Era. Welcome to tabbed browsing.
That’s right, one of the main features we’ve all been enjoying in Firefox for donkey’s ages now will be coming to an IE6 browser near you. It had been intimated we would all have to wait until IE7 (due in “the summer”), the cheeky monkeys.
Of course, as always there is a catch with any positive IE related news and this time it is “how” the feature is enabled. Simple software patch? Nah. Automatic Update? Nope. Instead this most fundamental of all functionality has been bundled as part of the rather awful and bulky MSN Search Toolbar.
Given that many IE6 users bin this in favour of Google’s toolbar, you’re all going to have re-enable it to get what you want. Ouch.
Anyhoo, the new toolbar is available now here so suck it up and take the pain if you want to reap the benefits. Of course, if you want a smaller, faster, superior browser that has tabs natively built in, along with RSS and an expandable search engine, head over here instead!
