IBM's T43 ThinkPad incorporates cutting-edge security and power management technology, including a fingerprint reader.
IBM today unveiled its latest ThinkPad notebook – the T43, which it claims is its fastest thin-and-light notebook to date. The machine is one inch thin and weighs 4.5 pounds (2.04Kg),
The T43 is equipped with a fingerprint reader, and offers new versions of IBM’s security and recovery software. Rescue and Recovery 2.0 with Antidote Delivery Manager is an enhancement to IBM’s ThinkVantage technology. It enables one-button relief from worms and viruses, even if the operating system has been corrupted.
“The addition of the ThinkPad T43 to our notebook family underscores our commitment to quality, innovation, and to meeting demand for secure notebook computing,” says Marc Godin, Vice President of Marketing and Channels, IBM EMEA Personal Computing Division. “In this class of ThinkPad notebooks, outstanding performance is a given. What the ThinkPad T43 offers is new levels of security and control.”
With the T43, IBM has also looked to optimise at power management through the ThinkPad Power Manager. This utility gives users control over the thermal management of their notebook PC, specifically the processor speed and the speed of the fan that cools the processor – two devices that significantly impact battery life.
Powering the ThinkPad T43 is the new Intel Centrino mobile technology (codenamed Sonama), which was announced here. This includes the new Intel 915 Express chipset family, and Intel PRO/Wireless networking. Additionally, the T43 supports up to 2GB of DDR2 533MHz system memory, up to 80GB of hard drive capacity and has one Express Card slot and one PC Card slot. The ThinkPad T43 also features the new PCI Express architecture that supports forthcoming ExpressCard options.
Users will also be able to choose between an integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 or more powerful graphics in the guise of an ATI Radeon X300 or an ATI Mobility FireGL V3200.
Select models of the ThinkPad T43 notebook will be available in March, 2005 through select business partners. The ThinkPad T43p will be available in April 2005. The estimated price for ThinkPad T43 models start at £1,600.
