iHome Spawns iH26: The Mini iH5 For Your iPod

The original iHome iH5 was a wonderfully received iPod clock radio that – in my opinion – is still (for the price) without peer in the current market. So it is nice to see iHome has developed the idea to come up with something a little more portable.

The iHome iH26 is the result and it is cuteness persondevice-ified drawing heavily on the styling of its bigger brother yet sporting what I can only describe as speaker ‘ears’ (which fold down to save space).

Now despite the smaller size the iH26 retains many of the features that made the iH5 so popular including fade in/fade out wake and sleep to iPod settings, adjustable display brightness, a remote control and the ability to charge your iPod while docked.

In addition the portable version comes with a protective carry case with handle and a travel lock that maintains settings and stops the unit from powering on in transit (which is frustrating, though not embarrassing like the time I had to explain what the buzzing cylindrical object in my bag was to airport security: it was an electric toothbrush).

A universal travel adaptor with UK, US and European clip on plugs generously ships with the iH26 while non iPoddian MP3 players can also be connected via an auxiliary jack. In fact, the only missing element from the iH5 appears to be the FM radio, but I can’t imagine too many will throw their toys out the pram over that.

The iH26 comes in black or white and has been made immediately available for the extremely reasonable price of £69.99. I see no reason why it won’t be just as successful as the iH5 though I guess we always have that constant fear… innate human stupidity.
