Sony has announced that the huge PS Vita 3.00 system update is rolling out now, preparing the handheld for the PS4 release date.
Ahead of the PS4 launch on November 29 in the UK, Sony has launched the PS Vita 3.00 system update that adds the new PS4 Link app to the homescreen.
“The big news is that PS Vita’s 3.00 update adds connectivity to the PS4 system. A new application called PS4 Link has been added to the homescreen”, explains Sony.
The PS4 Link app allows the PS4 and PS Vita to connect in two distinct ways: Remote Play and Second Screen.
“Through Remote Play you’ll be able to stream PS4 gameplay to your PS Vita via Wi-Fi freeing up the TV for other uses.”
However, although you will be able to access Remote Play anywhere with a Wi-Fi connection as long as your PS4 is on and connected to a Wi-Fi network, Sony advises staying at home to achieve optimum performance.
“Gaming performance of Remote Play will be best when PS4 is connected via Ethernet, and the PS Vita is in close proximity to the Wi-Fi access point.”
The Second Screen functionality of the PS4 Link app will work in a similar fashion to the Xbox One SmartGlass app.
Sony has also improved the Friends app and its user interface, making it easier for you to find players on the PlayStation Network and interact with those friends. You’ll also be able to connect with your friends on PS4 via the Party app on the PS Vita.
The Content Manager has also been updated so you can transfer content from your PS3 to your PS Vita over a Wi-Fi connection rather than having to have it plugged in via USB cable.
PS Vita updates can be downloaded automatically after the 3.00 system update, which is turned on with the Auto-Start Settings within the PS Vita’s settings menu.
Parents will also be relieved that a Parental Controls menu has been added to the homescreen, allowing them to control the features and games children can access, as well as restricting the amount of gaming time they are allowed in each session.
The PS Vita Photos, Messages, Email and Trophies apps have also been improved in the 3.00 system update, which is available to download now.
