Virtual reality

Virtual reality is the next big thing according to Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, so it’s time to jump on the bandwagon.

Huawei has revealed it is looking into virtual reality during an exclusive interview with TrustedReviews.

The company confirmed significant interest in the sector, in line with a number of its competitors.

“We are heavily investigating [virtual reality], but actual detail we cannot say,” Clement Wong, Huawei’s VP of Global Product Marketing, told us.

He continued: “VR is a very hot topic now, and I think we don’t miss any good product that can provide the best user experience – no matter VR, or whatever else.”

Virtual reality is a burgeoning product category that’s set to grow substantially in 2016.

Many of Huawei’s rivals in the smartphone industry have already developed VR products. Examples include Sony’s PlayStation VR, the HTC Vive, the LG 360 VR headset, Microsoft’s HoloLens, and Samsung’s Gear VR.

As such, Huawei is part of a shrinking group of smartphone manufacturers that have yet to stake their claim in a share of the VR industry.

While LG announced its own VR headset at this week’s Mobile World Congress, Huawei’s main product launch was the Huawei Matebook 2-in-1 notebook.
