Huawei plans to ‘disrupt’ smartphone market later this year

Following the formal unveiling of the Huawei Ascend P2, Huawei has revealed that it plans to ‘disrupt’ the smartphone market later this year.

Suggesting that a new handset launch later in the year will actively ‘disrupt’ the current flow of the smartphone market and force fellow manufacturers to follow suit, Huawei has teased that it has a new device in the works which could rival the likes of the iPhone 5 and Google Nexus 4.

“This summer we will launch another phone that will be very disruptive to the smartphone market,” Huawei’s CEO of Consumer Devices, Richard Yu said.

Although Yu failed to offer any details on what the future handset will have in store, having today unveiled the 1.5GHz quad-core, 13-megapixel camera toting Huawei Ascend P2, it is expected that any ‘disruptive’ smartphone offering would play host to a bevy of premium innards.

“In this industry, product is a currency,” Amy Lou, Global Brand Director for Huawei said before offering backing to Yu’s comments of an upcoming game changer from the Chinese manufacturer. She added: “We will continue to drive innovation, we are committed to deliver the best to our consumers”

With Huawei teasing that its research and development teams are already working on a pair of Google Glass rivalling Huawei eyewear, the company has suggested that it will be rolling out a broad range of innovative new products within the next “five to ten years.”

Offering further backing to the company’s future handset plans, a further official Huawei spokesperson added: “Huawei is committed to pushing the boundary of what is possible and see how that great technology can be made more accessible to people all over the world.”
