Huawei Mate 8 video leak reveals fingerprint scanner, metal body

Huawei’s next flagship smartphone is set for a September launch, and the leaks are ramping up ahead of time.

The latest in Huawei Mate 8 pre-release spillage is a video that appears to show off the device in the flesh, or rather metal.

The video comes courtesy of prolific leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer, who posted the clip in a tweet.

The handset in the video sports a model number of M200-UL00, and the appearance of a metal chassis and a fingerprint scanner gel with earlier leaks.

It also appears to be sporting a spiffing golden paintjob.

Unfortunately, the video doesn’t provide us with much in the way of specs.

However, previous leaks have given us some idea of what to expect from the Huawei Mate 8.

For starters, it’s tipped that we’ll see a 6-inch display with a 1,440 x 2,560 pixel resolution.

Also expected to feature is a Kirin 950 processor built by Huawei’s HiSilicon mobile chip division, as well as 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage.

Other leaked specs include a 20.7-megapixel rear-facing camera, an 8-megapixel selfie shooter, and a sizeable 4,100mAh battery.

Huawei is set to hold an event at the IFA Berlin technology trade show on September 2 – it’s widely suspected we’ll see the Mate 8 launch there.

It’s worth noting that there’s plenty of buzz about the Huawei Mate 8 launch, because it could give us clues about Google’s next Nexus smartphone.

That’s because Google has reportedly signed Huawei up to produce a 6-inch handset for its Nexus program, due for launch this year.

Nexus manufacturers often take inspiration from their own flagship devices for the Google-powered handsets, so the Mate 8 could be our biggest clue about the Nexus 6 (2015).
