Huawei Mate 10 vs Mate 10 Pro: What’s the difference?
Huawei has just taken the wraps off a duo of new phones at a launch event in Munich. There’s the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro; and both are seriously big, powerful devices. They’re also the slickest phones ever designed by Huawei and have the top-end specs to match.
But what’s difference between the two? Let’s have a look and see.

Both of these phones are some of the best Huawei has ever designed. They’re made of glass, rather than metal, and have an aluminium rim adding some rigidity.
The Mate 10 Pro follows the the style set by the Samsung Galaxy S8 and iPhone X, thinning down the bezel and stretching the screen to each corner. It looks good but the best thing is that the phone feels a lot smaller than it should do. The back is slightly curved and the glass offers an extra hit of grip.
The regular Mate 10 has a more traditional look with a 16:9 screen and a fingerprint scanner below the display. It still has a fairly slim bezel though, but not quite as thin as the Pro.

The Mate 10 Pro is also IP67 rated for water-resistance, the Mate 10 isn’t, but that also means you lose the headphone jack. There is seemingly lots of trade-offs between these two models.
There are differences in the available colours too. The Mate 10 comes in brown, gold, pink and a very shiny black, while the Mate 10 gets rid of the black and gold and adds in grey and blue.

Design and headphone jack aside, there isn’t much to separate these phones when you delve beneath the surface. Both are powered by Kirin 970 chipset and as such have a dedicated neural engine for carrying out AI-based tasks.
They also have the same camera combination, with a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor sitting next to a 12-megapixel colour sensor. Both these sensors sit under f/1.6 glass, which is wide enough to let plenty of light through.
Not everything is equal though. The Mate Pro has 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, as opposed to 4GB/64GB on the Mate 10. Bizarrely though there’s no microSD slot on the Pro, so you better hope 128GB is enough.
There are also big differences in the screen resolution and display type. The Mate Pro has an 18:9 OLED panel with an FHD+ resolution, while the Mate 10 has a 5.8-inch quad-HD 16:9 LCD display, Both are capable of displaying HDR content, though that’ll need app updates from the likes of YouTube and Netflix.

It seems odd to us that Huawei has decided to equip the supposedly ‘Pro’ model with a lower-resolution display, but the move to the more vibrant OLED should offset this somewhat. Still, it’s an odd move.
Both phones have a 4000mAh battery with Huawei’s Super Charge, EMUI based on Android Oreo and an 8-megapixel f/2.0 aperture.
