Huawei Ascend Mate images leak

More images of the Huawei Ascend Mate phone/tablet hybrid have leaked onto the internet.

The images of the forthcoming 6.1-inch device come courtesy of Chinese website MyDrivers (via Unwired View). The images show the Huawei Ascend Mate alongside what Huawei perceives to be its main rival, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

Huawei Senior Vice President Yu Chengdong previously revealed that his company was working on a device that would be slimmer and yet more powerful than the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. This device was subsequently confirmed to be the Huawei Ascend Mate.

Huawei is seemingly setting out to trump its rival with a 6.1-inch full HD (1080p) display – the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 ‘only’ manages a 5.5-inch 720p equivalent.

Apparently the Huawei Ascend Mate will run on a 1.8GHz quad-core CPU backed by 2GB of RAM. It’s also believed to be packing a 13-megapixel camera. All of these specs would put the at the top of the so-called phablet tree.

Mate 2

We haven’t seen many devices that fall into the 6-inch category. There have been 5-inch devices like the aforementioned Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and 7-inch devices like the iPad mini and Google Nexus 7, but there’s not a lot in between. Huawei will be entering relatively new territory here.

We wouldn’t be at all surprised to see the Huawei Ascend Mate officially unveiled at CES from January 8, so keep your eyes peeled for more news soon.

Do you like the sound of the Huawei Ascend Mate, or does a 6.1-inch device step too far into tablet territory? Let us know in the comments box below, or via the Trusted Reviews Twitter and Facebook feeds.
