Huawei Ascend Mate 7 with fingerprint sensor reportedly appears in leaked pics

Photos of a Huawei smartphone/tablet hybrid packing a fingerprint sensor have emerged online ahead of a planned launch event at next month’s IFA tech show.

The pics, which reportedly show either the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 handset or a mid-range alternative known the Ascend D3, appeared on Chinese social network Weibo.

Wrapped in a plastic casing with cut out sections, the device shows a fingerprint sensor on the rear, something that was strongly hinted at (and more or less confirmed) by the invites Huawei sent to the media earlier this month.

Those invites actually displayed a finger print, accompanied by the caption “Feel,” leaving very little to the imagination.

The new phablet, which is expected to pack a 6.1-inch display, will be the third generation Ascend Mate device.

However a further leaked photo on Monday suggested the device on show may be the mid-range Ascend D3 handset, offering lower specs.

The other photos showed the device as having a 1280 x 720p display, rather than a 1080p Full HD handset revealed when the Mate 7 appeared in AnTuTu benchmarking tests earlier this month.

Is Huawei planning to launch two devices with tiered specs, both packing fingerprint sensors? We’ll find out for sure on September 4, which is the big press day at the annual tech bonanza in Berlin.

The show is also likely to see high profile launches from Samsung, Sony, LG and Motorola and promises to be one of the most eventful events in recent years.
