HTC Zoe to launch as dedicated Android app for rival handsets

HTC is taking a leaf from Nokia’s book, confirming that its HTC Zoe camera application will be made available for rival manufacturers’ handsets through the Google Play Store.

One of the biggest software hits of last year’s HTC One offering, the image enhancing HTC Zoe feature will be present on the newly confirmed HTC One M8 before landing as a dedicated Android application later in the year.

Although the Taiwanese manufacturer has confirmed that a HTC Zoe application is on the cards, the company has yet to offer any precise timing on when you can expect the app to land.

It will not be arriving on the Google Play Store until later on this year,” a HTC spokesperson told us.

While a HTC Zoe app release date is still somewhat up in the air, the manufacturer has confirmed the feature will be available as a free download.

For those not familiar with Zoe, it is a camera enhancing feature which allows users’ stills and video content to be brought to life in a motion gallery montage.

A dedicated camera mode, HTC Zoe records 3.6 seconds of HD video and captures 20 still photos per shot. Ensuring you don’t miss any vital action, recording starts 0.6 seconds before you press the shutter button.

According to the manufacturer: “HTC Zoe gives people the ability to shoot high-res photos that come to life in three-second snippets.”

They added: “These Zoes, photos and videos are then displayed in a unique way that brings the gallery to life and transforms the traditional photo gallery of still images into a motion gallery of memories. These highlight videos can be remixed or set to different themes, and can be easily shared on social networks, email and other services.”
