Recent rumours suggest Valve has begun development on a successor to its HTC Vive virtual reality headset.
This latest round of rumours comes from trusted insider LlabTooFer on Twitter, who states the headset is being referred to as “Oasis” internally.
You might recognise the mysterious codename from Ready Player One, the futuristic novella by Ernest Cline. Oasis is the very same name used for the metaverse found in the book’s narrative, which explains where Valve found its inspiration.

The HTC Vive launched earlier this year to overwhelming critical reception, but is yet to set the mainstream world of gaming on fire. The software has been limited, with little in the way of killer apps on the platform.
We scored Valve’s headset an impressive 9/10 in our review:
“If you can afford it and have the room for it, the HTC Vive offers, quite simply, the best virtual-reality experience you can get.”
