HTC’s rumoured next flagship handset may have made an appearance in Taiwan, interestingly, at an event designed to showcase 5G capabilities.
The HTC U12 — codenamed HTC Imagine — is reportedly the handset pictured displaying mind-blowing mobile data speeds of 809.58Mbps on the Speedtest app.
That’ll lead to speculation the HTC U12 will be the company’s first phone to arrive boasting 5G capabilities.
Of course, the speeds can only be reached in controlled environments right now, such as the aforementioned Taiwan 5G Industry Alliance meeting.
The ability to reach those speeds also allows us draw some conclusions about the HTC U12 specs.
It’d need the new Snapdragon 845 platform, which features a new Qualcomm X20 modem that’s capable of reaching theoretical speeds of 1.2Gbps.
Elsewhere the handset looks like it’ll have an 18:9 bezel-less display, just like the U11 Plus.
5G networks aren’t expected to go live this year, but the inclusion of capabilities might give the company a boost as it looks to stay relevant in the smartphone world.
We’re yet to learn when HTC might be planning to unveil its U12 smartphone, but it’s likely to be here before the spring rolls around.
