HTC smartwatch release date may have slipped yet again

Will we ever see an HTC smartwatch? News of yet another delay may make you wonder.

Early in May we reported on claims that HTC’s smartwatch had been delayed from its April launch window until June 6. That would have been fine, but HTC has claimed to have been working on this device since 2014.

Now it seems we’ve been hit with yet another HTC smartwatch delay.

Evan Blass is known for his reliable tech tips, typically under his Twitter handle @evleaks. He’s particularly hot on HTC stuff.

So his latest proclamation on the HTC smartwatch holds a lot of weight:

Yep, the HTC smartwatch release date has been pushed back to the autumn. As Blass notes, HTC is playing a dangerous game here, with the initial hype surrounding the smartwatch form factor rapidly dissipating – if it hasn’t gone already.

Of course, you could look at it the other way. It’s arguable that smartwatches have been ALL hype up to this point, and that we have yet to see a truly complete smartwatch from the Android Wear, Apple, or any other stable.

With a refreshed Android Wear 2.0 and Qualcomm’s first dedicated wearable processor (the Snapdragon Wear 2100) hypothetically on board, HTC could be preparing the first must-have smartwatch.

Or is that being a tad optimistic?
