HTC reveals Android Nougat update schedule – what you need to know

If you recently picked up a new HTC 10, or are using one of the company’s other recent handsets, you’ll be please to know you can expect an OS update soon.

HTC has announced it will be bringing the new Android 7.0 Nougat OS to its devices starting in Q4 this year, with the unlocked HTC 10.

The company confirmed it had received a final version of the software from Google, and will soon be ready to start rolling it out to devices.

Once the unlocked HTC 10 has been upgraded, the update will launch on the unlocked HTC One M9, after which HTC One A9 users with unlocked handsets will be catered for.

The firm says that carrier versions of these devices will also receive Nougat, but it’s unclear whether they will get the update at the same time as the unlocked versions.

HTC has a 90-day guarantee which basically mandates that it has to get software updates out to its flagship device, in this case the HTC 10, within that time-frame.

However, it hasn’t always managed hit that target for both unlocked and carrier versions of handsets, so we’ll have to wait and see just how it pans out this time around.

Unfortunately, we haven’t been given a specific date beyond ‘Q4’ for when Nougat will start hitting the HTC 10, or any other handsets for that matter.

There’s also no word on when HTC smartphones other than the HTC 10, One M9, and One A9 will receive the new OS.

We’ll update you as and when we learn more so stay tuned.
