HTC Outlines Which Phones Will Get Android Update

HTC has confirmed which phones will be getting the Ice Cream Sandwich treatment as well as confirming that it will be launching a new tablet in 2012.

On the UK HTC Facebook page, the Taiwanese company has announced that seven of its handsets will be getting the upgrade to Android 4.0, three of which are only available in the US.

The phones to get the upgrade will be the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XL and HTC Sensation XE, HTC EVO 3D as well as the US-only HTC Rezound, HTC EVO Design 4G and HTC Amaze 4G.

If your phone is not on the list HTC also said that it was “continuing to assess [their] product portfolio” and would be bringing updates for more devices in the near future.

Meanwhile, the CEO of HTC, Peter Chou was outlining the company’s plans for the tablet market: "It's a market we would like to try and test, to see whether we can make ourselves stand out and prevent a me-too product."

HTC released the Flyer last February but it failed to grab the imagination of the public but that was more down to its high price rather than poor design or build quality.

Chou didn’t give any details about what size the new tablet would be or indeed when in 2012 we can expect to see it in stores.

Looks my Desire HD will be left high and dry. If only there was an easier way to root Android phones .. dagnabbit!

Oh HTC - you guys really know how to alienate your customers by not offering updates to phones that are only a couple of months old. No more HTC for me...

Agree with both the previous comments. I'm considering my next phone being a vanilla Google phone.

So no Desire S, launched just 6 months ago? Mind you, this list sounds rather US-centric, so perhaps we'll get a more European flavoured list in time.

HTC Sense looks utterly redundant in the face of ICS. There used to be a strong case for it, but IMHO it's really not worth these protracted update delays any more. From here on out I'll be buying vanilla phones, or at least phones with lighter modifications.
