HTC One S9 mid-range phone announced for Europe

HTC One S9

HTC has caught everyone on the hop in revealing a new mid-range smartphone for the mid-range market.

The company hasn't long announced its new HTC 10 flagship, but it's followed up quickly with a quiet mid-range launch. First spotted on HTC's German website (via 9to5Google), the company has now officially unveiled the HTC One S9.

The HTC One S9 looks a little bit like the HTC One A9 from the front (in other words, it's quite iPhone 6-like), and the HTC One M9 from the back. This means that it looks, to all intents and purposes, like a premium phone.

However, the phone's specs are decidedly middle-of-the-road. We're talking a 5-inch 1080p display, a 2GHz MediaTek® Helio X10 CPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and a 13-megapixel rear camera with an f/2.0 aperture. One notable point here is that the camera comes with OIS, which is rare on a mid-range phone.

There's NFC and microSD support, and the One S9 also comes equipped with a pair of stereo BoomSound speakers. But there's no fingerprint scanner.

Which is all well and good, but the HTC One S9 isn't exactly what you'd call cheap. At €499 (around £387), it's more expensive than the likes of the Nexus 5X and even the Moto X Style.
