HTC has announced the HTC One ME – another nifty-looking QHD device that doesn’t look set for the West.
After the disappointing reception of the HTC One M9, all eyes turned to the heavily rumoured HTC One M9+. Here was to be a souped up version of the One M9 with a QHD display and a fingerprint scanner – a device to truly take on the Samsung Galaxy S6.
The HTC One M9+ was indeed unveiled back in April, but only in China. The smartphone world scratched its collective head.
Now we have another sharp-looking variant from the HTC stable, the HTC One ME. It too looks set to be held tantalisingly out of reach to those outside of Asia, as it has taken its bow over at HTC China.
With a 5.2-inch QHD (that’s 2,560 x 1,440) display, it’s the most pixel-dense HTC phone yet. What’s more, it’s the first phone ever to run on the new MediaTek Helio X10 octa-core CPU. 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage completes a pretty capable power package.

The One ME has also got the same front-mounted fingerprint sensor as the HTC One M9+, as well as those familiar front-mounted BoomSound speakers. Around back, meanwhile, the ME has a regular 20-megapixel camera, with a 4-megapixel UltraPixel front-facing unit.
Interestingly, the phone drops the all-metal body of HTC’s other high-end phones in favour of a polycarbonate body over a metal frame. It’s all adding up to an intriguing upper-mid-range phone, an it’s a shame we may never see it in the UK.
