Although the One M9 has been confirmed for a March 30 release here in the UK, the Taiwanese manufacturer has revealed its latest flagship phone will not launch in America until next month.
Not only is this near two week delay a disappointment for American shoppers, it means the flagship phone will go on sale the very same day as its biggest rival.
“We’re going to partner with networks on specific releases but the phone will start to be available in retail on April 10th,” Jason Mackenzie, President of HTC America said during the company’s launch of phone replacement service, HTC Uh Oh.
Skirting around the issue of the impending head-to-head, he added: “We’re blessed to have amazing distribution on this product and it will be available across all major networks here in the U.S.
“We’re super excited about their commitment to make this big.”
Samsung confirmed during the S6’s MWC unveiling that both its flagship S6 and innovative Galaxy S6 Edge handsets would be handed a global release on April 10.

The HTC One M9 is a modest update on last year’s flagship phone, the HTC One M8.
Retaining its predecessor’s 5-inch, 1080p Full HD display, the handset has added an improved 20.7-megapixel primary camera alongside a faster, 64-bit Snapdragon 810 CPU and 3GB of RAM.
Ahead of the phone’s March 30 UK launch, the M9 has been made available for pre-order.
Although the M9 will hit British shores this month, the S6 would hit UK retailers until April 10.
