HTC has confirmed that shipments of its new HTC One flagship smartphone have been delayed until the end of March.
The HTC One had been due to land in shops on March 15, but HTC has announced that this will not be the case. “We will start fulfilling pre-orders by end March in certain markets and will roll out to more markets as we approach April,” reads the HTC statement.
UK online retailer Clove had hinted at the delay by announcing a slippage from March 15 to March 29. The retailer also revealed that the delay was “out of our control,” hinting that the source of the problem was at HTC’s end.
HTC One Rumours
Last week we reported on industry rumours that HTC was experiencing production difficulties with the HTC One. Specifically, it was said that two components were proving problematic to manufacture.
One of these components was said to be the compact camera module, which is at the heart of the HTC One’s bold new feature.
Utilising an innovative three-layer image sensor, the HTC One’s UltraPixel camera will shoot using fewer but larger pixels, theoretically resulting in superior low-light performance.
It could be, however, that the HTC One’s biggest unique selling point (other than it’s funky design) is also its biggest handicap in terms of initial sales.
By delaying the launch by two weeks, the HTC One will land in a market that’s fully clued up on the Samsung Galaxy S4, which will be announced on March 14.
