HTC One and HTC One mini owners will soon be able to install the latest Android 4.4 KitKat OS in the UK.

The new Google mobile OS is rolling out to all HTC One and HTC One mini smartphones across the UK now and will bring a selection of updates to the smartphone duo.

According to the update info, the HTC One and its little brother will both get Android 4.4.2 KitKat, which requires 308.24MB of free space in order to install.

The update will also introduce some security enhancements for the two HTC smartphones.

Google's KitKat Cloud Print service will be added to both smartphones, allowing you to connect to printers on your Wi-Fi network, plus you'll also be able to use a wider range of Bluetooth profiles following the update.

The Flash Player compatibility for both devices will be removed with the Android KitKat update, so if you are particularly used to watching Flash movies on your mobile you might want to delay installing the update.

You will get the majority of the Android 4.4.2 KitKat features with the update, including the restyled navigation and status bars.

You'll also see the new Phone Dialler app that allows you to search for contacts within the app and automatically tries to match unknown calls with numbers for local businesses listed in Google Maps.

Why has Flash been removed? does this mean i can't play Zynga Poker or play Youtube video's on my phone anymore?

That's google for you. They're relying on HTML5, rather than flash now. This is mostly due to the fact that HTML5 is much lighter and smoother.

errmm updated but was looking for release notes. HTC uk live chat tells me they have pulled the release. see below

Daria: Thank you, did you say that you downloaded the KitKat update already?

neil delahay: yes, became available 2 days ago. checked web to ensure and page at http://www.htc.com/uk/go/htc-s... said it was pushed to customer. for O2.

neil delahay: now page says in intergration. my device states frimware 4.4.2 sense 5.5 and software 4.19.401.9

neil delahay: am looking for release notes so i can play!!

Daria: Play what sorry?

neil delahay: considering a very cheap offer of a sim free nexus 5 which has a full 4.4.2 install but like my HTC One and would like to compare the differences in software

neil delahay: just would like a link to release notes in full for 4.19.401.9

Daria: This is the only official link we can provide you with

Daria: http://www.htc.com/uk/go/htc-s...

Daria: The current release of Android 4.4 (KitKat) software has been temporarily taken off line. As HTC are committed to quality and providing the best customer experience possible we made this decision. This is temporary, so please stay tuned over the next few days for a new release. We appreciate your patience.

Daria: Is there anything else I can help you with today?
