HTC One A9 is ‘good alternative’ to iPhone, says CEO

HTC is preparing to unveil its One A9 phone today and may well be pitching the device as an alternative to rival the iPhone.

As Focus Taiwan reports, HTC Chairwoman and CEO Cher Wang sent a letter to company employees stating that the upcoming mid-range handset will “strike a balance between beauty, performance and simplicity”.

This, she goes on to say, will make the One A9 a “good alternative” to Apple’s flagship smartphone, despite being a mid-range device.

The Taiwanese company will launch the phone, which is expected to run Android 6.0 Marshmallow, later today at an event in New York.

Although the official launch takes place today, hi-res images of the device were accidentally posted on Orange France’s website last week.

The french carrier revealed that the One A9 will feature a Snapdragon 617 octa-core chip, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage.

It is also expected to have a 13 megapixel camera on the back, a four megapixel front-facing camera, and a 5-inch 1,080 x 1,920 pixel screen.

The One A9 launch will take place later today and can be streamed online here.
