NVIDIA has let slip HTC’s plans for its new Nexus 9 tablet, revealing all in a court document. The processor firm is currently engaged in a lawsuit with Samsung and Qualcomm and used the Nexus 9 as an example of a device which uses its K1 chip.
What’s more, NVIDIA has claimed that the Nexus 9 is ‘expected in the third quarter of 2014’. That leaves HTC only three weeks to unveil the device, which is set to be the first to use Google’s new Android L software.
Keen HTC fans will know that the company is holding a special event on October 8th in New York. There’s nothing in its ‘Double Exposure’ invite to suggest the Nexus 9 will be on show and with Google not expected to release Android L until later in 2014, an imminent launch date does seem unlikely.
HTC has been rumoured to be working with Google on a new tablet for some time. Packing an 8.9–inch screen and often billed as the Nexus 8 or Nexus X, the Nexus 9 is believed to replace last year’s Asus–made Nexus 7.
With Apple expected to launch a new set of iPad models in the next few months, HTC and Google will be desperate to get their new product on shelves first. Tablet sales have stagnated as users wait longer to upgrade compared to smartphones.
