HTC MWC 2016 Press Conference – What to expect

What would you like to see?

The HTC MWC 2016 press conference is nearly upon us, and we’re expecting big things from the Taiwanese tech giant.

HTC had a tumultuous 2015, so Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress tradeshow is the ideal platform to reassure customers that the company is still a capable manufacturer.

HTC’s press conference details have yet to be formally announced, but we’d expect to see it take place early – somewhere between February 20 and 22 – in line with the company’s rivals.

But what is HTC planning for the tradeshow? The likeliest candidate for a-launchin’ is the HTC One M10, but there could be plenty else on offer this year.

Here’s a round-up of what we think HTC could show off at MWC this year:

HTC One M10

It’s looking increasingly likely that HTC will use MWC as a launch platform for its next flagship smartphone.

The HTC One M10 has been making its way through the rumour mill for months, and talk of a February launch is ramping up.

HTC One M9The HTC One M9

The mooted handset would be a natural successor to last year’s tepidly received HTC One M9, and seems an ideal product to unveil at the Barcelona tradeshow.

While HTC hasn’t confirmed anything yet, it’s suggested that the HTC One M10 will feature a Snapdragon 820 processor, a fingerprint scanner, a 23-megapixel camera, and a hefty 3,000mAh battery. There’s also talk of a high-resolution QHD display – huzzah!

And if the HTC One M10 does arrive in February, it’s almost assured to run on Google’s new(-ish) Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system.

HTC One Watch

But Mobile World Congress isn’t just about smartphones. There’s also talk about a new smartwatch called the HTC One.

The device has been leaked under several names, including HTC Petra, with rumours consistently pointing to a February launch.

In fact, the device has even been teased by oft-reliable tipster and journalist Evan Blass:

It’s not exactly clear what the HTC One Watch would look like, but we’d expect to see it running Android Wear.

That said, HTC hasn’t made any official announcements regarding such a launch, so take this with a pinch of salt.

HTC Vive Pre

The HTC Vive made an appearance at last year’s Mobile World Congress, and we’d expect it to be no different this time around.

The company’s latest VR headset version – the HTC Vive Pre – had a brief showing at CES 2016, so MWC could be a perfect opportunity to give press a better look at the new wares.

There’s also a chance that HTC could reveal new HTC Vive price, spec, or release date details, so stay tuned.

At the very least, we’d hope for some new VR experiences to try out, to see what developers are cooking up behind closed doors.
