HTC M7 specs revealed

Specs for HTC's next flagship smartphone device, the HTC M7, have been leaked onto the internet.

The HTC M7 codename has been floating around for some time now, with the expectation that it'll be HTC's proper successor to the HTC One X some time in the first half of 2013. Now, unnamed sources over at Unwiredview claim to have obtained the phone's specifications.

The HTC M7 will reportedly keep the HTC One X's 4.7-inch display size, but will move to a significantly sharper full HD 1080p panel like the HTC Droid DNA phablet launched in the US. This will provide a picture that's more than 40 per cent sharper than its predecessor (not to mention the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the iPhone 5).

This super-sharp display will apparently be labelled SoLux, and will offer superior viewing angles, colour accuracy and outdoor visability to the outgoing Super LCD 2 of the HTC One X (which remains one of the best displays on the market to this day).

The HTC M7 will need a powerful processor to keep all those pixels moving, and that will reportedly come in the shape of a second generation 1.7GHz quad-core CPU from Qualcomm, backed by 2GB of RAM. Internal storage will be 32GB once again.

If you remember, the HTC One X sold itself on its impressive (though never class-leading) 8-megapixel camera, and the HTC M7 looks like providing a notable step up in that respect. Expect a 13-megapixel 'Cinesensor' image sensor that provides super slow-mo and HDR capabilities for video.

In terms of the OS, the HTC M7 will run on Android Jelly Bean with a brand new version of the Sense UI, which will be Sense 5.

These are some decent specs, no doubt, but then the HTC One X was an impressive phone both on paper and in the hand - and it still didn't manage to storm the charts. HTC will need to market and distribute this one far more aggressively if its to claw back some market share from Samsung.

Expect the HTC M7 to be revealed at MWC 2013 at the end of February.
