HTC J Butterfly follow-up officially confirmed
HTC has confirmed that the HTC J Butterfly will received a follow-up thanks to its popularity.
HTC’s chief marketing officer Ben Sho revealed that a second generation HTC J Butterfly was in the works, according to Focus Taiwan.
Prior to the emergence of the HTC One, all the buzz surrounding HTC was in regards to the HTC J Butterfly and its western variant the HTC Droid DNA.
Indeed, the Japan-launched HTC J Butterfly pre-empted the HTC One (and its rivals) in terms of offering a large Full HD display. In fact it was the very first smartphone to do so.
Besides its 5-inch 1080p display, it featured a powerful 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 CPU backed by 2GB of RAM, as well as an 8-megapixel camera.
HTC J Butterfly Success
The HTC J Butterfly has proved to be a strong seller in Japan at a time when HTC badly needs strong sales. It even overtook the iPhone 5 on Japanese operator KDDI for a time.
However, the HTC J Butterfly has apparently suffered from production shortages, which is an issue the company has also faced with its new flagship device the HTC One.
Still, it comes as no surprise to learn that the Butterfly brand will continue. The main question that remains is whether any additional territories will see the HTC J Butterfly 2 outside of Japan, Taiwan and the US?
