The next Google Nexus devices will be built by HTC and will run Android N, according to a report on Wednesday.

The reliable Evan Blass (aka Evleaks) says the two firms are partnering on two devices currently codenamed M1 and S1.

Blass has released no further information on the purported devices at the time of writing.

With Google announcing Android N surprisingly early this year, it seems fair to assume we may see these devices revealed as soon as Google I/O next month.

The company’s annual developer showcase kicks off on May 18 in Mountain View, CA.

The news comes on the day the poorly-received Nexus 9 tablet, the last Nexus device made by HTC, was removed from sale from the Google Store.

The company, an early Android pioneer, was once the apple of Google’s eye and even made the first Nexus One phone back in 2010.

The company has shared the honours with Samsung, Motorola, LG and Huawei down the years, but now looks to be fronting the next version of Android with two new devices.

Whether they’ll both be smartphones or whether Google wants to add another tablet to the mix remains to be seen.
