HP Stream affordable Windows 8 laptops and tablets announced

HP has announced a new range of ultra-affordable Windows 8.1 laptops and tablets, including the HP Stream 11.6 for just $200.

With one eye clearly on the growing Google Chromebook platform, HP has announced the HP Stream 11.6 and HP Stream 13.3.

These compact, colourful laptops boast Intel Celeron processors, fanless designs, and 32GB of flash storage, with prices starting from $199.99 (around £122). So yes, very similar to your average Chromebook, then.

The HP Stream 13.3 offers a little more than its little brother besides its larger 720p screen, including touch display and 4G data options. Prices start from $229.99 (around £140). Both laptops will come with a $25 gift card for spending on apps and games in the Windows Store.

Also, HP announced two new affordable HP Stream tablets. Both the HP Stream 7 and HP Stream 8 run on Windows 8.1, though only the 8-inch model comes with the option of a 4G data package, offering 200MB of free data per month.

The Stream 7 will cost just $99.99 (around £60), while the Stream 8 costs just $149.99 (around £92).

All four new Stream devices come with a year’s subscription to Microsoft Office 365 Personal, which includes 1TB of OneDrive online storage and 60 minutes of Skype each month.

HP’s new Stream range will launch in the US in November.
