Reasonable specs, reasonable pricing.
HP’s Pavilion Elite m9600 series rather logically brings the previous m9500 series up-to-date. While the systems may not be quite as packed-to-the-gills with high end components as the name might suggest, the range does have the advantage of looking pretty reasonably priced.
As might be expected, Core i7 processors – either a 920 or 940 – sit at the heard of the m9600 range, backed up by up to 12GB of RAM and 1TB of hard drive capacity. Graphics options include the nVidia GeForce 9600 GS and 9800 GT or an ATI Radeon HD 4850.
Drive options include either a DVD-RW drive, a Blu-ray player, a Blu-ray writer and one of those three in addition to a DVD-ROM drive. A TV-tuner can also be specced, as can an HP Pocket Media Drive – a portable hard drive with a proprietary dock by another name.
The m9600 series is only available to buy on HP’s US site at the moment, where a base system (Core i7 920, 3GB RAM, 500GB hard drive, nVidia 9600 GS) sits at $949, which is pretty good. Obviously upping the specs ups the price, but the upgrade prices also seem reasonable.
Hopefully the Pavilion Elite m9600 series will make its way to the UK post haste.
