HP outs new Pro Slate Android tablets with neat digitising tech

Hewlett-Packard has boosted its Android tablet line up with what appear to be the most impressive models yet.

The new Pro Slate 8 and Pro Slate 12, announced on Tuesday, are business centric, but have enough cool features to interest consumers too.

The main selling point is the inclusion of HP’s Duet Pen Stylus. Using this, on HP’s Paper Folio accessory, will enable folks to see their scribblings immediately digitised on the screen.

HP hasn’t announced whether the pens will work on other paper sources, or whether the functionality will be limited to its own accessory.

Anyway, let’s talk specs. The larger Pro Slate 12 features a giant 12.3-inch screen with a resolution of 1600 x 1200. There’s a Snapdragon 800 processor (which is far from the newest iteration of the chip set), 2GB of RAM as well as 8/2-megapixel cameras.

There’s 16GB of storage, which can be boosted by the addition of a MicroSD card, while it’ll also run the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system.

The smaller Pro Slate 8 has a 7.9-inch display with a better 2048 x 1536 resolution, but other than that the internal specs remain the same.

In terms of design, HP seems to have gone the extra mile with these releases, with some reports humorously pointing out the new Pro Slate tablets look like oversized HTC One smartphones.

HP has also built a host of its proprietary apps into the tablets, which will be available at a date to be announced. The Pro Slate 8 is $450 (around £296), while the 12-incher is $750 (£495)
