HP has said that following the unprecedented interested in its TouchPad tablet in recent weeks, it would be making “one last batch” to meet the demand.

Of course the heightened interest may have had something to do with the bargain basement £89 price tag slapped on the 16GB TouchPad by HP, following its decision to do away with the webOS hardware for good.

“I think it’s safe to say we were pleasantly surprised by the response,” Mark Budgell from HP said rather coyly in a blod post.

Budgell went on to say: “Despite announcing an end to manufacturing webOS hardware, we have decided to produce one last run of TouchPads to meet unfulfilled demand. We don’t know exactly when these units will be available or how many we’ll get, and we can’t promise we’ll have enough for everyone. We do know that it will be at least a few weeks before you can purchase.”

However for those worried that the TouchPad would be snapped up by businesses, fear not as HP said it would not be making them available to small-to-medium businesses through its business sales channels. We've already seen TouchPads running Android and this will only add to the appeal of these

Regarding pricing, HP looks set to continue to offer the new batch of TouchPads at the discounted price though according to Bugdell individual retailers can set their own price: “Each retailer will manage their own policy and process regarding pricing and price matching.”

The decision by HP to restart the TouchPad production line is a curious one, considering the company is set to lose millions of dollars on the cut price tablets by selling them at well below cost price.

We will be keeping an eye out for the tablets becoming available in the next few weeks but if you spot any at discounted prices be sure to let us know.
