House of the Dead is making a comeback to arcades after a decade of absence
After over ten years since its last release, a new entry in the beloved House of the Dead series is coming to Japanese arcades.
House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn was recently announced by Sega via its official website with an assortment of screenshots and information.
It appears Scarlet Dawn will feature an all-new duo of protagonists as you work together to wipe out hordes of bloodthirsty undead. Judging by what’s on display, there’s more than ever before.
You aren’t just contending with zombies, either. Screenshots showcase chainsaw-wielding undead alongside parasitic worms and strange, robotic creatures.

Much like a number of modern arcade titles, House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn will be situated inside a claustrophobic cabinet where you can truly feel the horror.
Similar arcade experiences also implemented 3D features and heartbeat monitors that use the player’s fragile state to amp up the scares.
Specific details are hard to decipher from the official website considering it’s in Japanese, but it appears Scarlet Dawn will make its debut in Tokyo later this year.

It’s far too early to tell if Scarlet Dawn will receive a western release or console port in future, but it’d certainly be a great fit for virtual reality and modern consoles with the right controllers to hand.
