Honor Band Zero beats Huawei Watch to the wearable punch

Honor is on a bit of a product spree this week, revealing the Honor Band Zero just one day after its new flagship Honor 7 smartphone was announced.

The Honor Band Zero is the Huawei spin-off brand’s first smartwatch, and marks the company’s effort to muscle in on the burgeoning wearables space.

The company announced the Band Zero through Twitter, touting it as a “smart wearable device that embodies a minimalistic design.”

Unfortunately, Huawei and Honor haven’t really detailed much else about the newly unveiled wearable – including whether it’s a smartband or a time-toting smartwatch.

However, a GSMArena report claims knowledge of the device, and purports that the Band Zero will launch in China in August. There’s no mention of a UK release, unfortunately.

The report goes on to reveal that the Band Zero uses a brushed metal bezel that surrounds a circular touch display. It’s also IP68 water- and dust-resistant certified.

But what can it actually do? Well it’s claimed the Ban Zero will display call and message notifications, and function as a pedometer and sleep tracker.

The article says Huawei has been “secretive” about the device’s OS and retail price, but says customers will be able to purchase the device in black, beige, and white strap options.

We’ve asked for more details on the new device from Huawei, and we’ll update this post if we hear back.

The Huawei-owned company’s new smartwatch comes ahead of the Huawei Watch, a wearable we’re still waiting for since its MWC 2015 announcement.

A recent report suggested the device would land in September, although Huawei hasn’t confirmed any details just yet.

There’s one wearable that we’ve had loads of time to play with however, and that’s the Apple Watch. Check out our race across London video below:
