Homefront: The Revolution will release on May 17, 2016, according to a leak by US retailer Target.

We haven’t heard much about Homefront: The Revolution for a while, but it may be with us sooner than we think.

According to a recent leak by US retailer Target, the title will be launching on May 17, 2016.

The retailer is now accepting pre-orders for the game, and those who preorder will be given a reservation card complete with the rumoured release date.

An image of the card was sent to Xbox Achievements and displays the alleged release date in two different places.

Publisher Deep Silver is yet to officially announce a release date for the Homefront sequel after delaying it earlier last year.

A multiplayer beta is coming to Xbox One in early 2016, after the game’s multiplayer mode was shown off at Gamescom 2015.

Homefront: The Revolution is being developed by Dambuster Studios, an in-house developer at Deep Silver.

The project has an unusual history, having switched developers multiple times due to financial problems at Crytek.

The original Homefront launched for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC back in 2011, and received moderate critical and commercial success.

Despite being a by-the-numbers shooter, Homefront managed to tell a compelling story with some interesting themes.

Set in the near-future, Homefront follows a military occupation of the United States by a unified Korea.

It’s an unusual setup, and one that led to some unique character moments and fun set pieces.

I haven’t played it in almost five years though, so it may not hold up against today’s shooters.

If the rumours turn out to be true, Homefront: The Revolution will be available on May 17 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
