It’s May the fourth, otherwise known as Star Wars Day, and there’s been plenty of great news for gamers at one with The Force.
The developers of Titanfall are working on a new Star Wars title for EA, and there’s a new trailer for LEGO Star Wars The Force Awakens out in the wild.
However, a new Kickstarter campaign perhaps brings the most exciting news of all for long-time fans of the original trilogy.
iOS and Android game HoloGrid: Monster Battle is designed by Phil Tippett the creator of the HoloChess game played by Chewbacca and C3PO in A New Hope.
While it’s not officially licensed as a Star Wars product, it’s openly inspired by the game that causes Wookies to pull people's arms out of the sockets when they lose
The Augmented Reality board game, which looks a little bit like chess meets Plants vs Zombies, will be available for mobile devices initially and then PC gamers.
However, Tippett Studio and Happy Giant are also planning to develop the game for Microsoft’s HoloLens AR headset and other virtual reality headsets.
The Kickstarter is seeking $100,000 and has $16,000 at the time of writing.
You’ll need to back to the tune of at least $25 in order to grab an early copy of the game, which is expected to be delivered in November. Stretch goals include a large, foldable game board to assist with the AR magic.
