Holo is a hologram projector for your smartphone or tablet

Phone screens are getting bigger and sharper. But what if you want to free what’s on your phone from the confines of your device? That’s where Holo comes in.

It’s a hologram projector for your smartphone or tablet. Just place your device face down on the top, and whatever’s on-screen will be projected as what looks like a floating 3D hologram within the unit’s pyramid.

It features a highly reflective transparent mirror polymer plastic on the pyramid, which helps make the hologram look crisp and lifelike. Others around the same price use plexiglass, which can blur and distort the images or even duplicate them. Which would dampen the experience somewhat.

The polymer plastic also means it can be viewed in a bright room, whereas most other models need the room to be pitch black so you can see the hologram.

What would you use it for? We’re not entirely sure. Brands will no doubt use it to show off their products in a futuristic setting, and there are probably some games that could take advantage of it. But it seems more like a cool effect than having any practical use.

Ah well. At this price, you can’t really argue. It only costs $15 (£10) on an early bird. That’s for the smartphone version. The tablet model will set you back $19 (£13). Both will be ready to ship in April.
