Those looking forward to the next Windows 10 update might not have long to wait if a Twitter user's recent discovery is anything to go by.

The next update for Microsoft's desktop OS (codenamed Redstone 2) looks set to arrive in March, according to references to "Windows 10 Version 1703" in the most recent test versions of Windows 10.

Discovered by Twitter user WalkingCat, the numbers seemingly refer to the year and month of release for the next update, with Microsoft previously using the codes for the Windows 10 Anniversary Update (1607) which launched in July.

The company is said to be planning two major updates, and possibly more, to Windows 10 for next year, and is expected to reveal more about them at a special Surface event on October 26.

Windows Insiders, have been provided with test versions of some of the upcoming fearures, including a blue light reduction feature, most of which have been somewhat minor.

Other improvements include updates to Cortana that should help mobile devices and PCs communicate more effectively, and a 'HomeHub' for managing smart devices, which might just make it into the March release.

Microsoft is aiming to release at least two major updates to Windows each year, but this year decided to delay Redstone 2 until early 2017 – which fits with the March 2017 release suggested by WalkingCat.

Windows Insiders should expect to see much more in the way of test versions of new features in the coming months as Microsoft gears up for the official Redstone 2 launch.
