Latest evidence suggests Apple is making a charge for electric cars

Apple is reportedly speaking to manufacturers of electric car-charging stations for its rumoured automotive project.

According to Reuters sources, Apple is seeking information from companies in the field.

Cupertino has also hired at least four engineers, Reuters determines from a review of LinkedIn profiles.

However, the companies concerned are reluctant to share their knowledge with Apple, which could become a competitor in the space.

The sources were unclear on whether Apple would build its own technology or simply engineer compatibility with existing charging systems.

Tesla, the pioneer in the field, has created its own proprietary solution. Given Apple’s history, it will surely follow suit.

Apple declined to comment on the story, but the president of NRG Energy’s EVgo charging business said he was “in discussions with every manufacturer of today and every potential manufacturer of tomorrow.”

Not exactly a denial.

A Reuters source told the agency: “It would be natural to assume if Apple is going to have a full battery electric vehicle that creates a seamless consumer experience the way Apple does, the charging infrastructure and its availability would be of paramount importance.”
