Here’s Faraday Future’s insane electric concept car

Secretive car-maker Faraday Future has come out swinging at CES 2016 by unveiling a high-performance electric concept car.

The FFZERO1 caused quite a stir at the tech expo, with a claimed horsepower of 1,000, the ability to reach 60mph in less than three seconds, and augmented reality capabilities.

Faraday Future, which is backed by Chinese media firm LeTV, has been working undercover for more than a year on the battery-powered machine.

With a claimed top speed of more than 200mph, a helmet that feeds the driver water and oxygen, and ‘Aero tunnels’ to drag air in and cool the batteries, the FFZERO1 seems more suited to racing than day-to-day use.

But with a steering wheel that allows a smartphone to be plugged in, and augmented reality views which can be projected onto the road, the car incorporates several elements which could see their way to mass-production vehicles in the future.

Faraday Future told attendees at CES that it is on target to create its first production vehicle in two years, although it is highly unlikely to be the FFZERO1.

The car uses a modular basis, known as a ‘Variable Platform Architecture’, which the firm claims allows them to adapt the design and create various different vehicles using the same underlying platform.

With the California-based company preparing to break ground on its first factory near Las Vegas within the coming weeks, Faraday Future are hoping to disrupt the car industry with their novel approach.

It will be investing more than $1bn (£679m) in the factory.

There is also talk of self-driving cars in the future, and an unusual subscription plan for customers, involving various types of autonomous vehicles.

Other car-makers are expected to show off their latest driving tech as CES unfold, so make sure to check our CES hub for all the latest updates.
