HBO Now hits Apple TV and iOS ahead of Game of Thrones S5 premiere

The brand new HBO Now subscription free streaming service is available now for Apple TV and iOS device owners in the United States.

The $14.99 (around £10) a month service arrives exclusively on Apple devices ahead of the Game of Thrones Season 5 premiere, which airs on Sunday night, April 12.

Apple was confirmed as an exclusive launch partner during its Spring Forward event last month, but neither party immediately confirmed an official launch date. Now the app is available, users can sign up for the no-commitments service which offers access to live and on-demand programming streamed over the internet.

The first month is completely free for those signing up from their Apple TV or iOS device, and new users will get to enjoy HBO Now for 30 days before handing over a penny.

Those who also sign up via their Apple device will be able to watch within their web browser on any computer via the HBO Now website.

HBO Now is seen as a landmark service as it allows, for the first time, viewers in the United States to access HBO without having to sign up for a wider cable TV subscription.

It is also expected to arrive on the Sling TV platform soon and for Cablevision Pay TV customers, but for the moment it’s exclusive to Apple TV and iOS device owners in the U.S. Whether more platforms will open up before Sunday remains to be seen.

HBO hasn’t announced any plans to launch HBO Now internationally, but it is unlikely to launch outside of the U.S. any time soon; especially in the UK where it has agreements with broadcasters like Sky.
