HBO boss confirms Game of Thrones’ days are numbered

US cable monolith HBO has confirmed its most popular show Game of Thrones will end its run after two more seasons, but hasn’t ruled out the possibility of a spin-off series.

In a chat with EW, HBO’s new programming president said he plans to abide by the producers desire to finish up after season 8.

However, Casey Bloys said he would take ’10 more seasons’ if David Benioff and Dan Weiss could be persuaded to alter their vision.

Casey Bloys said: “Yes, they have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do.

Believe me, as the new [programming executive] coming in, if I could get them to do more. I would take 10 more seasons. But we take their lead on what they think they can do the best version of the show.”

Season 7 of the fantasy drama will break from convention and will not air until the summer of 2017.

Producers are also cutting the number of episodes from 10 to just seven. The final season, expected in 2018, may trim back to just six hours.

However for those who can’t live without a little Westeros action in their lives, Bloys said there have been talks over potential spin-off shows.

“We’ve talked about it,” he said. “It’s something I’m not opposed to, but of course it has to make sense creatively. I’m not sure that [Benioff and Weiss] could really wrap their heads around it when they’re just about to start production [on season 7].

“It’s a pretty intense production, they’re about to start production soon. I’m open to it. The guys weren’t opposed to it, but there’s no concrete plans for it at this point.”

Should GoT go quietly into the forthcoming winter? Or would you welcome a spin-off? If so, based on which characters or kingdoms? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
