Has the Apple Pay UK release date just been leaked?

Apple announced its mobile payment platform would finally be coming to the UK last month, but it gave a vague “July” release window.

Fortunately, two new leaks seem to suggest a solid Apple Pay UK release date, and that’s Tuesday, July 14.

The first leak is a memo that appears to be sourced from UK retailer Waitrose, with a header that states: “Apple Pay will be live from Tuesday 14 July.”

The second leak comes from an unnamed retailer, and points to an Apple Pay “Live date” being July 14.

That memo also seemingly reveals that the retailer in question received an “Implementation Guide” for Apple Pay on July 3.

A report by 9to5Mac also claims that Apple will begin training its UK staff to support Apple Pay as of July 12, which now appears to be just two days before the official Apple Pay UK release.

The imminent launch will mark the first time Apple Pay has been available outside the United States since its launch late last year.

Just as in the US, Apple Pay UK users won’t need to enter a PIN to use the contactless payment service.

However, it’s important to note that all transactions will be capped at £20 initially. That’s mostly to stop someone nabbing your iPhone 6 and buying a new Audi with it.

It’s been rumoured, however, that retailers will eventually increase this cap later on in the year.
