Samsung has apparently amended the Galaxy Note 5 hardware to address a design flaw that made it easy to accidentally insert the S Pen upside down.
According to Phandroid, the firm has tweaked the internals to stop the popular stylus accessory becoming stuck if incorrectly stowed by users.
The report shows a picture of an updated motherboard featuring a gray tab that makes it possible to easily release the S Pen if inserted the wrong way.
Samsung’s first design featured a small black tab that did not offer users the same luxury.
Once the mechanism broke, the Note 5 no longer recognised whether the S Pen was in or out. It also prevented the launch of the requisite S Pen menu within the user interface. Effectively, it ruined the device’s key selling point.

Samsung addressed the issue by shipping the handset with a warning label wrapped around the device. Its initial response to the controversy had been to advise users to read the manual.
The company hasn’t acknowledged tweaking its hardware design yet, but even if it is doing so on the QT, it’s good news for those buying newer builds of the handset.
